’14 Manoir de la Tete Rouge Bagatelle

I had the opportunity to try this very unique Loire Cab Franc at Clementine, on Jasper Ave, tonight. It was a surprising Cab Franc in its style – very unexpected!

The nose is rustic French – earthiness with some floral fragrance- and on the palate the raspberry turns nearly jammy but not quite, as the fresh quality holds it in check.

The minerality is certainly present as I understand it is grown in iron-rich soil. Most interestingly is the fact the wine is matured in concrete rather than oak, which explains my surprise upon first taste without knowing. Non interventionist is the style here.

Try this if you like: something with a bit more body than a Beaujolais.
