’14 Glen Carlou Chardonnay

Glen Carlou is a South African winery I cannot recommend enough. They have the value “Classic” line as well as the “Gravel Quarry” top shelf offering. Both are exceptional for what they are intended for.

Here we go with the Chardonnay from the “Classic” selection. The nose is toasty stonefruit – stone/tropical fruit being what you generally see in warmer climate whites. The palate presents more citrus than tropical fruit to me, is toasty without being buttery, and has balanced acidity. I should note it seemed a touch more cloying than the 2013 to me.

The finish presented mostly pineapple with some lingering citrus. At $25 this will stand up as an excellent value I feel.

Try this if you like: pineapple, tropical aromas, moderate oak (for Chardonnay)
